While it is important for marketers to stay focused on a consistent and coherent strategy, one based on principles and tools that won’t be shaken with each new fleeting technology, some fads can take us by surprise and force us to change and update existing marketing strategies.
Pokémon Go is one “fad” that that has had marketers racing to implement location-based ads surrounding the mania. Snapchat is an expample of a more permenant trend that has placed increasing importance on location. Yet, Snapchat and Pokémon Go are just the beginning of a revolution involving mobile technology. Mobile is at the center of almost every part of our daily lives, from purchasing a product on Amazon to confirming a friend’s wild assertion at dinner.
The focus on mobile is increasingly paired with a focus on local and a mounting awareness regarding our surroundings and how they relate to the bigger picture. From geofilters to local check-ins, our local-mobile environment is quickly becoming the future of everything we do.
