Brandify Partner Spotlight: Foursquare

Today we're happy to announce Brandify's inclusion in a new partner page on the Foursquare website. Although the page is new, our relationship with Foursquare goes back several years. We thought this would be a great opportunity to tell you a little more about Foursquare and our partnership with the company, as the first in a series of partner showcases we'll be sharing over the next few weeks.

Foursquare, as some will remember, launched with a splash back in 2009 at the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas. One of the first big hits in mobile apps, Foursquare's novel idea was to "gamify" local search and discovery by means of the check-in. Visitors to popular venues could check in on the app and win badges. The user with the most check-ins at a particular venue became the "mayor."

The concept took off, and Foursquare quickly began to amass millions of data points from the check-ins of loyal users. Foursquare was special in that it offered a crowdsourced alternative to traditional sources of data about local businesses, and before long, the company recognized that its unique data set could be leveraged for a variety of innovative marketing purposes.

Foursquare has long had a process that allows business owners to claim and manage their venue profiles on the platform. In partnering with Brandify, Foursquare augmented its platform with current, accurate venue information for thousands of brick-and-mortar chain and franchise locations. Brandify was among the first to integrate Foursquare's API for the purpose of providing real-time updates to venues on the platform.

Over the past few years, many other companies have taken notice of Foursquare's data layer and incorporated Foursquare location data into their apps and services. Notable names among these distribution partners are Apple, Airbnb, Snapchat, and Uber, among many others. Some in the local search industry have begun to refer to Foursquare as a data aggregator, classing it with established companies like Infogroup who aid in listing distribution by syndicating their data to multiple partners.

For businesses concerned about accurate representation of their locations on today's most popular apps and social networks, Foursquare represents a powerful syndication path.
